We Care

Protecting our future

Our responsibility

As part of our role to support, reassure and provide security to our customers, we also have the responsibility as a company to care for the environment, our people and the communities that we’re part of.

Research and education

We want to be able to adapt and protect our customers against the risks of the future as well as those of today. That’s where research and education come in.

We can’t protect against what we don’t yet understand. So the AXA Research Fund was created to encourage scientific research that would contribute to understanding and preventing environmental, life, and socio-economic risks.

As part of the AXA Group partnership with CARE, the international humanitarian NGO, we’re helping vulnerable populations to better prepare for climate-related risks.

Our impact

We’re constantly looking for new ways to reduce our environmental impact. We've made great progress in reducing our day-to-day impact and we’ve set ourselves some challenging CO2, paper and water reduction targets. Here’s how things are shaping up so far:

50 %

Of our electricity

has come from renewable sources since 2009.

60 %

Of our office waste

is now being recycled.

We’re also modernising lifts in our offices and replacing inefficient air conditioning. We’re installing energy efficient boilers and lighting with movement sensors, and we’re using zero emission electric vans for short journeys around the Tunbridge Wells campus. Plus, across all sites, we bring our own cups and mugs to work so that we can save on the amount of plastic we use.

Our workplace

By having a happy and engaged workforce we can strive together to be the best that we can be for our customers. We all have something to bring to the table and by recognising our differences, we can attract the best people and create a great place to work.

Stonewall Diversity Champion

Why is diversity important to us?

Bringing our people together from a diverse range of backgrounds makes us stronger. We each offer a different perspective on ideas, problems and solutions. We help each other to better understand our customers both locally and globally. We share our unique experiences and advice and give each other more confidence and self-belief. And having such a multi-cultural and varied workforce helps us to attract the best people to join us.

What’s next on the Diversity and Inclusion agenda?

Becoming an inclusive place to work offers everyone the chance to reach their true potential. That’s why we’ve signed the Women in Finance Charter as our commitment to raising awareness and diminishing unconscious biases. And why our various Employee Resource Groups, like WoMen at AXA, Pride (LGBT and allies) and Able (physical and mental health focus), encourage our people to shape our working environment to be inclusive of everyone. It’s why we’re happy to talk about flexible working options and why we’re working on Leadership Development programmes, to develop the potential of our future leaders.

Our communities

We work within our local communities to support their needs and offer our people the opportunity to develop while helping others. Here’s how:

Hearts in Action

Through Hearts in Action, AXA’s global community partnership programme, our people can volunteer within their local communities and further afield, or take part in charity fundraising.

Charities and fundraising

Our people voted for not one, but two charities this year. We’ll be supporting both MIND and Alzheimer’s Research UK as our charity partners of choice. We also support local, employee-chosen and national fundraising campaigns, within each office, raising thousands of pounds every year.
