Salary:
£70,000 to £80,000 dependent on experience

Are you a strategic and results-driven professional with a passion for data? We’re seeking a skilled Data Product Owner to join our Commercial Data, Analytics and Insights Team. You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end delivery and performance of data products, ensuring they generate measurable value aligned with our business priorities. You’ll lead a dedicated, cross-functional delivery squad to drive successful delivery outcomes and optimise data assets for commercial impact.

Operating at the nexus of business and data functions, the Data Product Owner will shape and maintain the product vision, prioritise the roadmap, and lead your squad to deliver high-quality, valuable data solutions. This role is essential in embedding an agile, product-centric approach within each squad, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and commercial focus. If you’re a confident leader with a passion for delivering data-driven value, this could be the perfect opportunity to make a significant impact within our organisation.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) towards the end of 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. We’re also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Own the end-to-end delivery, outcomes, scope, schedule, and quality of data products, ensuring alignment with business priorities and data strategy.
  • Lead and manage a cross-functional delivery squad through line and matrix management, fostering clarity of purpose, focus on value, and a collaborative culture.
  • Set objectives, priorities, and ways of working for the squad, maintaining the product vision, strategy, and roadmap in line with emerging opportunities and business needs.
  • Prioritise and manage the product backlog, balancing value, feasibility, and effort to support incremental delivery and early value realisation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to plan, deliver, and adapt product increments, proactively managing scope, dependencies, and capacity.
  • Oversee squad processes such as planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and demos, ensuring transparency, continuous improvement, and high-quality delivery.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the business and squad, translating complex objectives into actionable data requirements and engaging stakeholders regularly.
  • Manage risks, issues, and interdependencies, define success metrics, and foster a culture of agile, outcome-focused delivery and ongoing learning.

Due to the number of applications we expect to receive for this role, we reserve the right to close this advert earlier than the listed closing date to ensure we’re able to effectively manage interest. Therefore, if you’re interested in joining us at AXA, please don’t hesitate to apply.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager within a data environment, with accountability for delivering end-to-end data products.
  • Expertise in agile, product-centric delivery methodologies, with a deep understanding of how to apply these to data product development.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully leading, inspiring and developing cross functional delivery squads with full authority and accountability through both line management and matrix management structures across the data lifecycle.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to translate business priorities into data product strategies that drive tangible value, improve performance and support decision making.
  • Deep understanding of the role data plays in insurance, particularly in supporting claims, underwriting, operations, pricing, portfolio management and risk teams.
  • Highly analytical mindset, able to engage confidently with technical teams while maintaining a sharp focus on business value and outcomes.
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms and cloud environments, such as Azure, as well as data tools like Power BI and SQL.
  • Knowledge of data management disciplines including governance, data quality, architecture, and data modelling.
  • Awareness of data governance principles and best practices.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
