With the upcoming retirement of our existing Director, we’d like to introduce the Commercial Customer Business Resilience Director role and the fantastic opportunity this presents.

With an impressive portfolio totalling c. £1.65bn GWP, across over 800,000 customers, through dedicated teams of 1,600 professionals, the AXA Commercial UK business has an ambition to continue to profitably grow, to continue to transform its capabilities and to continue to attract and retain the best talent.

Leading the Commercial Business Resilience Risk Management team, you’ll oversee the assessment and guidance provided to our underwriters, brokers, and customers regarding the risks, hazards, and mitigation strategies related to our customers' businesses across property, casualty, and motor portfolios.

With a large in-house team of Business Resilience Managers and Risk Engineers, you’ll be actively engaged and influence AXA Commercial’s direct, schemes and delegated authorities, SME, Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate business units. Engaging the market and influencing legislative change through market and political influence will be a key focus area, ensuring AXA are at the forefront of Risk Management thinking and activity.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and drive the ongoing development of the Customer Risk Management proposition, strategy and component parts, ensuring the approach is clear, relevant and attractive to Brokers and Customers.
  • Gain support and alignment across the business, ensuring the operational / trading fulfilment of the Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate proposition is focused and effective, to deliver the ambitious growth and profitability targets built into the strategic and financial plans.
  • Support SME, Schemes and Direct segments identifying effective digitalised risk management solutions, innovation and controls.
  • Provide leadership, direction and development for direct reports, including all elements of performance management including succession planning, talent identification and development.
  • As a member of the Commercial Underwriting Leadership Team, fully participate in all key forums and play an active role in developing the strategic agenda, now and in the future, providing input and insight within and outside own remit.
  • Visibly lead and present the Risk Management propositions in key events / forums, both internally and externally, demonstrating AXA’s commitment and focus to developing improvement in standards, best practice and legislation.
  • Engage and collaborate with the AXA UK head of sustainability providing thought leadership and engagement on sustainability impacting the built environment today and in the future.
  • Conceive, formulate and implement strategic and operational plans for Customer Risk Management strategy team and operational Business Resilience Managers, ensuring alignment with AXA Commercial goals and objectives.

What we’re looking for:

  • In depth knowledge of risk management principles and environment.
  • Track record of developing broker centric propositions from concept to delivery.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills at every level.
  • Detailed understanding of key insurer financial metrics.
  • Strong leadership skills including managing a team of home based or remote workers in the UK and overseas (India).
  • Ability to think strategically and execute supporting strategic actions.
  • Solid knowledge of commercial underwriting, preferably within Property & Casualty.
  • Thorough knowledge of the broker market and adept at building strong broker relationships.
  • Detailed knowledge of trade/industrial processes and associated insurance hazards.
  • Capable of engaging and influencing executives, government agencies, and industry groups via existing networks and collaboration with AXA's government affairs and press teams.
  • Extensive experience of delivery and completion of risk management customer assessments of all types of business both in UK and overseas.

This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.

Please be aware that this position is a Senior Management Function role under the SM&CR regime, which means the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced level of background screening requirements.
