Description

The AXA Actuarial team are seeking a new Data Engineer to join the team. Our aim is to deliver the latest in Machine Learning on Microsoft's Azure cloud platform. By joining the Data Engineering team you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in the world of Python, Apache Spark, Data Bricks and Big Data on Azure. We're building a new Transformation team, so you’ll have a real opportunity to shape the way AXA Actuarial uses its new Data Lake.

As a Data Engineer you will be ingesting data from a variety of data sources from relational databases to unstructured data such as text documents. You'll use big data tools such as Apache Spark & Data Bricks on Azure to process, clean and enhance this data. You'll play a key part in defining and establishing data pipelines to produce reliable feature sets for our Actuarial Teams to build predictive models, as well support in various Reporting and Visualizations. There will be opportunities to work closely with the Actuarial Business team to help understand methodologies and to help enhance pipeline and model development. This is a new function at AXA on a new platform with opportunities to shape the way we use big data technologies & Azure Cloud Services to deliver business value.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design, build and deploy data systems, pipelines, applications for usage by the actuarial team.
  • Undertake maintenance of data pipeline.
  • Work closely with the business on everything including problem scoping, infrastructure provisioning, execution, deployment, maintenance.
  • Setup data management procedures and controls. Oversee execution and adherence to procedures and controls.
  • Consider the impact on customers of pricing actions and act to avoid any unfair treatment.
  • Support local team in producing reports for Data quality and Data Management for senior management.
  • Support development of suitable MI, Analysis Tools for Actuarial Team.
  • Support local stakeholders with communication and knowledge management strategy to educate and ultimately empower consumers of data on the governance policies and practices.
  • Collaborate with peers across business to deliver on the overarching data strategy and communicate the same through various medium.

Qualifications

  • Expert level understanding and experience of using Azure Data Lake.
  • Excellent hands on experience with Spark and other suitable Big Data Technologies.
  • Experience with Java, Python, Scala and other suitable programming languages.
  • Demonstrate building of web applications and services.
  • Role expected to be suitable for someone between 3 to 6 years of experience.
  • Ability to grasp challenges for business stakeholders and looking for their solutions
  • Demonstrate effective communication, influencing and strong relationship building skills, both within and outside the immediate team
  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines whilst maintaining reliability and accuracy. Proven ability to plan and prioritise own work.
  • Experience of Data Visualization tools and a working knowledge of machine learning techniques would be advantageous.
  • Previous exposure to Insurance/ Financial Services would be beneficial, but is not required.

Holiday
