Case study: apprentice career path

Gary Clark

I started my apprenticeship with AXA PPP Healthcare in September 2011

In my first year at AXA I worked on my Customer Service level 2 NVQ

In August 2012 I successfully completed my apprenticeship and was awarded my NVQ

Following my apprenticeship in September 2012, I was offered a full-time contract with AXA PPP Healthcare and began working as a Level 2 PA

During the next two years that I spent working as a PA I decided that I wanted to become a senior PA and deal with complaints and complex cases

I became a Senior PA in October 2014 after passing a medical policy validation paper and having a professional discussion with management

Whilst working as a Senior PA I started to find out more about the Team Manager role and in early 2015 I applied to the Next Stop program

In September 2015 I met my wife, a PA in the membership team

Following an assessment day, which involved an interview and several role play scenarios, I earned a place on the Next Stop program

In February 2016, after being part of the Next Stop program for five months, I was confirmed as a Team Manager and I’m now seconded in my role as a Fast Track Manager

Olivia Beech, IT Apprentice (5 months)

I am a very driven and ambitious person, and as such, an apprenticeship provided me with the platform to launch my career and move forward. Although I enjoyed school, I was not keen on continuing education at a very high cost, and thus decided to develop my skills and experience in a professional environment.

Katie Lambert

"University is not the only path to a rewarding and successful career. An apprenticeship at AXA is a great alternative to further education. You have the opportunity to learn, develop yourself and get paid at the same time!"
