We have silver status with the Charities Aid Foundation thanks to our employee "Give as you earn" scheme. We’re very proud to have won prestigious awards, most recently:
The Sunday Times Best Green Company Award - doing our best to be as "green" as we can. We run electric vans; have solar panels on our buildings and recycling points throughout our offices. Our Chief Executive recently received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise on behalf of PPP International. We won a Global Award for Innovation for our scheme called "caring for Customers with Cancer".

[Viv Murray, Dedicated Nurse] "Good afternoon you have reached the dedicate nurse team this is Viv Murray speaking how can I help?"

I've worked at Axa PPP for 10 years. I qualified 30 years ago and my first role in the hospital was as a nurse on a very busy female surgical ward where most of our patients were breast cancers or bowel cancers.

The dedicated nurses are nurses who look after our members who have been diagnosed with a cancer.

We are available from Monday to Friday from 9 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon.

When the member has been diagnosed with cancer, they will call into AXA PPP to set up the claim and to say that they are going to be having some treatment. Now the PA, the personal advisor that takes that call will ask the member would they like to be put through to the dedicated nurse team who deal with all our cancer cases.

Because we are a voice on the end of the phone, they know they will never bump into us in the supermarket, we are anonymous, we are a voice, and a friend at the end of the phone.

[Viv Murray, Dedicated Nurse "You're going on The oncologist this evening. Right, well there may be some questions you may want to write down".

It could be they want to discuss treatments or sometimes they just want to chat they just want to update you, let you know what is going on. Sometimes it would just be advice on, for example, if they are embarking on chemotherapy they would want to know, well what to do if I am going to lose my hair?

We are able to talk to the member and advise them on simple things like you have got long hair to maybe you may be start having it cut little by little. Especially if the member has children it's not so dramatic if mum cuts hair shorter and shorter and then when it does fall out it's not such a shock.

Because we are a large team of 20 nurses, all these nurses have a wide range of expertise in all areas and we can advise on any cancer diagnosis.

We feel it is a valuable service because of the feedback we have received saying how invaluable it was at a dreadful moment in their lives when they just needed someone to talk to, some reassurance, and just someone to contact if ever they felt the need to talk. Because we know what they are going through, we know what this journey entails and we want to there be with them so that they have that point of contact and that they are not alone.

It was great to get involved in the refurbishment of Eynsham House. These things don’t come round very often so it was a great opportunity. We’d spent time working out what we wanted and how we could improve on what we’d already done and this was a great chance to make it even better than it was already and the end result looks brilliant - right down to the red pillars as well!

The ‘be healthy’ site launched in May this year and I think it’s really inciteful. Quite quick and easy to use, it’s quite straight forward and self-explanatory really.

It’s not just launching two new products, we’ve build a brand new claims system, we’ve changed the tone of voice, we’ve changed the website, in fact built three new websites to sit along alongside it and we’ve launched six weeks ahead of schedule, so I’m quite pleased about where we’re at at the moment.

The nature of our work means that at times it can be very emotional and difficult to deal with and we all recognise that in each other and the support network throughout the team is really good; we’re all close, we’re all very good friends and I think we offer a very good service because of that.

By the end of the year AXA PPP will have raised for us enough money to have paid the mortgage on our centre in Tunbridge Wells for the entire year. The team at the dragon boat race raised an extra £150 pounds, the ladies who baked cakes, the IT section who turned up for the cricket match and the guys who drank beer nobly at Donnington they’re all absolutely fantastic. And I would say that we at Headway would like thank everyone at AXA very much indeed for everything they’ve done this year. You’ve all been grand.
